The Preparation Guide
Know Before You Go
Because Kolob's high altitude brings unpredictable weather, planning ahead is vital. Use this guide to ensure your Utah fishing trip is seamless and successful.
What To Bring

FISHING LICENSE
All guests 12 years and older must possess a valid Utah fishing license before boarding. Licenses can be purchased online through the DWR website.
FISH LIMIT
Keep 2 Trout Limit: Fish you keep must be under 15 inches or over 22 inches.
WEATHER
8,000 ft elevation. Temperatures can change fast; wind is common.
FOOD & WATER
Stay hydrated. We provide bottled water. Bring your Own Snacks.
WAIVERS
Digital signature required 24 hrs. before departure or paper form at the start of the day.
Age Restrictions
Guests 14 years or younger will not be permitted to operate their own pontoon boat. Smaller children may share a pontoon boat with an adult. Larger children have the option of being towed behind a pontoon boat in a kyak. The guide may use their discretion to limit anyone from using the pontoon boats based on their ability to handle the equipment properly and safely.
Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy
All booked trips are strictly non-refundable unless cancelled in writing 72 hours before your tour's scheduled start time. Should a change need to be made our team will make every effort to reschedule your outing for a future date. In the event that Zion Fly Fishing Tours LLC must cancel a trip due to hazardous weather conditions, mechanical issues, or unexpected emergencies, we will work with you to find an alternative date. Directions & Logistics
Meet at Kolob Reservoir Boat Launch
We meet all guests directly at the Kolob Reservoir Boat Launch. Our guides will be waiting with the boats prepped and gear ready for your high-country expedition. Please arrive 5 minutes prior to your scheduled start time.
Driving Notes
- From Springdale: Take NV-9 to Kolob Terrace Road. Expect a scenic 55-minute climb into the high plateau.
- From St. George: Travel north on I-15 to the Virgin exit, then follow Kolob Terrace Road. Total travel time ~ 1 hour 20 minutes.
- From Cedar City: Take UT-14 East to UT-148, then cross through the scenic high mountains via Kolob Terrace Road ~ 1 hour 25 minutes.
Gas Services and Cell Coverage
Ensure your vehicle has at least half a tank of gas, as there are no gas services and limited cell phone coverage on the plateau.
